        • Archdiocese of Los Angeles Policy on Safe Environment

All adult parish volunteers in the archdiocese who have contact with minors must be fingerprinted under the California Penal Code. The fingerprints are submitted to the California Department of Justice. Fingerprint reports and any subsequent arrest notifications are overseen by the archdiocesan Fingerprinting Office as the confidential reporter of criminal offender record information (CORI reporter) and the Office of Legal Counsel.

The archdiocesan policy is to fingerprint adults, not minors. Under state law, people who are under 18 years old should not be fingerprinted. Therefore, any minors who volunteer to work with other minors need to be supervised at all times by an adult who has been fingerprinted and has completed VIRTUS® training; the minor volunteer should not work alone with other minors.

Adult parish volunteers who are not fingerprinted may only work with other adults and may not have regular contact with minors in any volunteer activity.

All staff and all volunteers, whether lay people or members of a religious order, who serve regularly in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or vulnerable individuals are required to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children for Adults training before engaging in the activity. See Adult Safe Environment Initial Training Requirements summary.  Certain individuals may also need to be fingerprinted.

        • 4 Easy Steps

          1.     Register for and take the VIRTUS COURSE. You can take it in any archdiocesan region that fits your schedule. Bring a copy of your completion certificate to the school office.
          2.  Obtain a Fingerprinting / Livescan Form from the School Office.
          3.  Make an appointment for fingerprinting at one of the Archdiocesan locations. There will not be a charge. Bring your form and drivers' license with you.

          4. Complete and Sign the VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT and turn in to the School Office.
